This is just a phase the US is going through . The incadescent light bulb will remain untill they can figure out how to make a candle light "fluo".

We live in distressing times. A relatively small number of crackpots have worked themselves into positions where they are reshaping society and dictating others' behavior. Since when was it such a sin to consume energy? Energy is the fuel of mankind's progress! Yet we have made to feel guilty for our consumption, that it is unfair that one should consume more than another. I remember as a kid thinking it was weird when the power companies began advertising ways to save energy. Since when has a seller of anything promoted ways to not use their product?
The absolute fraud of anthropogenic global warming has in recent years been the stated reason for this dire need to conserve energy and downgrade our existence, but since the earth refused to cooperate and has been cooling for the past fifteen years they'll have to cook up another justification. They have fallen silent for the moment, but I'm sure they are working on a solution. Whatever they come up with, you can be certain that it will be our fault and that massive income redistribution will be a large part of the solution.
Just think- in California we are no longer allowed to purchase plasma televisions, the only stated reason being that they consume more energy than LCD sets. So, the people who preferred the picture of the plasma sets have had the choice wrenched away from them by lunatics.
Now Edison's light bulb is in their crosshairs, and who knows what other modern miracle will be next. Anyone want to hazard a guess while we sit idly by and allow this to happen?

Electric company had to buy out a small town about 150 miles south of here near their plant...cancer rates about 42 times the national average...
We've used the easy to get (read as cheap) reserves of petrol. It's gonna go higher, making people move to other energy.
I take it you don't read any studies about how taxed the power grid is? Without serious investment we'' be in trouble not far away.
There ain't no one solution. Moving to a 24 hour a day society would help, so everybody doesn't work at the same time..
I have LOTS of issues with CFL's
They have to be recycled or we just make a bigger pollution problem. I say put a deposit on 'em...let the bums scrounge them out of the trash if people are too lazy.
But wasting energy just because you wanna is a pretty silly position IMHO.
I use very little power...I've got solar and geothermal. The electric company has to pay me most of the time.

I've got no problems with using less energy. What I do have a problem with is the "green" ideas/laws/products that aren't really green, such as these stupid CFL bulbs. The light isn't right, they don't last like they're promoted too, they need to warm up to be bright, they contain mercury, they're mostly made in China who doesn't have environmental laws, etc.
